The doctrine that the content of the conclusion of a deductively valid argument is included in the content of its premises, taken jointly, is a familiar one. It has important consequences for the question of what value valid arguments possess, since it indicates the poverty of three traditional answers: that arguments may and should be used as instruments of persuasion, that they may and should be used as instruments of justification; and that they may and should be used to advance knowledge. The truth is, however, that in each of these cases the argument has only a managerial role and, if there is any work done, it is the premises that do it. It will be maintained that this point has little force against the critical rationalist answer, which I shall defend, that the principal purpose of deductive reasoning from an assemblage of premises is the exploration of their content, facilitating their criticism and rejection. That said, the main aim of the present paper is not to promote critical rationalism but to consider some published objections to the doctrine that a statement asserts every statement that is validly deducible from it. The alleged counterexamples to be considered fall roughly into two groups: statements that emerge with time from a rich mathematical or empirical theory, but were originally unformulated and are deducible from the theory only in a non-trivial way (Frederick 2011, 2014; Williamson 2012); and statements, notably disjunctions, that are easily formulated and are deducible from a theory in a trivial way (Schurz & Weingartner 1987; Mura 1990, 2008; Gemes 1994; Yablo 2014). Each of these counterexamples will be evaluated and dismissed.

Turmeric, with the scientific name Curcuma longa L., is a herbaceous and perennial plant from the Zingiberaceae family that grows in tropical areas. Turmeric has secondary phenolic metabolites and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The aim of this study is to measure the presence of curcuminoid structures and the antioxidant properties of turmeric extract. For this purpose, curcuminoid structure of turmeric extract was evaluated using phytochemical tests (total phenol and total flavonoid) to determine secondary metabolites, determination of antioxidant inhibitory activity (DPPH) and visible-ultraviolet spectroscopy (UV-Vis) analysis. Examining the results obtained from the phytochemical test shows the presence of phenolic compounds (3. 81 ±,0. 36 mg of gallic acid) and flavonoid compounds (92. 75 ±,3. 62 mg of quercetin) and the UV findings of the presence of curcuminoid in the ethanolic extract. confirms The results of DPPH analysis show the dependence of the free radical inhibitory property on different concentrations of turmeric extract, with the increase in concentration, the amount of DPPH also increases, so that the highest inhibitory rate of 56. 99% was observed at a concentration of 200 μ, g/ml of the extract. The results of the present study showed that the ethanol extract of turmeric has curcuminoid compounds and the structure of this compound is preserved during the synthesis method, and the ethanol extraction method is a suitable method for preparing curcumin from turmeric.

Introduction: Continuous exposure of oxidants to the skin may disrupt the antioxidant balance and leads to inflammatory skin diseases (ISD). The aim of the present study was to compare the antioxidant activity, phenolic and flavonoid content of two traditionally used plants in ISD, Lawsonia inermis and Haplophyllum vermiculare. Methods: The hydroethanolic extract of the plants was prepared by maceration. Phenolic and flavonoid content of the extracts was measured respectively with Folin-Ciocateu and aluminum chloride methods. The monovalent reducing power and radical scavenging activity were also evaluated respectively by ferric reducing antioxidant power and 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl methods. Results: The reducing power of Lawsonia inermis (862. 89± 32. 23 μ molFe2+/g) was significantly higher than Haplophyllum vermiculare extract (765. 52± 29. 39 μ molFe2+/g). The radical scavenging activity of Lawsonia inermis extract at a concentration of 1000μ g/ml (%65. 72± 0. 77) was also significantly higher than Haplophyllum vermiculare (%36. 34± 2. 52). The higher antioxidant activity of Lawsonia inermis is probably due to its higher phenolic (96. 76± 3. 34μ g GAE/mg) and flavonoid content (197. 69± 5. 76μ g QE/mg). Conclusion: Henna leaves had higher antioxidant activity, phenolic and flavonoid content compared to aerial parts of Haplophyllum vermiculare, and may be more effective in improving oxidative stress, prevention and treatment of ISD.
